Having delivered the sixth Viking ocean ship at its shipyard in Ancona late last week, Fincantieri also launched Regent Sevens Seas Cruises’ next ultra-luxury vessel into the water for the first time on Saturday 9 February 2019.Seven Seas Splendor is the second super-luxury cruise ship from Fincantieri and is scheduled for delivery in February 2020.Like her sister ship Seven Seas Explorer, delivered at the Sestri Ponente (Genova) shipyard in 2016, Seven Seas Splendor will be 55,000 gross tonnes with accommodation for 750 passengers. Just last month, Fincantieri received a firm order from Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ parent company, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, for a third unit of the series, which will be delivered in 2023.Like Seven Seas Splendor, Virgin Voyages’ launch vessel, Scarlet Lady, was also floated out on Saturday 9 February 2019 at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Genoa Sestri Ponente. Scarlet Lady is the first of four ships that Virgin Voyages has on order. Construction can now commence on the interior fit-out of the ship, slated for launch at the beginning of 2020.Event attendees included Tom McAlpin, Virgin Voyages President and CEO, while Fincantieri was represented by Luigi Matarazzo, Senior Executive Vice President Merchant Ships Business Unit and Paolo Capobianco, director of the shipyard. Godmother of the ceremony was Giuliana Rindone, an employee of Fincantieri’s shipyard in Sestri Ponente.Scarlet Lady will weigh about 110,000 gross tons, be 278 metres long and 38 wide. Virgin Voyages’ second ship, currently under construction in the same yard, will be delivered in 2021, while the third and the fourth units will set sail respectively in 2022 and 2023.
