Ghana U23 coach attributes Olympic Games exit to fatigue

first_imgGhana Under-23 coach David Duncan has attributed his team’s inability to progress to the next round of London 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers to fatigue. The former AshantiGold coach believes the congested local fixtures physically drained his locally-based players who failed to meet expectations.Ghana was booted out of the summer Games on a 2-1 aggregate scoreline after a one-all draw in Khartoum on Saturday night.Duncan claims he knew his side’s chances were slim after losing the first leg 0-1 on home soil.“I think we lost the qualification slot in the first leg. I attribute the loss in Accra to the fatigue on the part of the players because they have been going in and out of league competitions and re-assembling and so putting a team like that together was quite difficult,” Duncan told the BBC.“Quite a number of the players had also played in the CHAN competition [and were] good enough to be part of the Olympic team so it was like they had suffered some degree of burn out but they were the best on the local scene and that to some extent contributed to the loss in Accra which was a little bit too late.” Ghana together with Cameroon have both exited the competition.Source: Ghanasoccernetlast_img read more
