Salah makes World Cup headlines for Chechnya photo

first_img0Shares0000Mohamed Salah, a star attraction ahead of football’s 2018 World Cup in Russia, has made headlines for a smiling photo with Ramzan Kadyrov, strongman of Chechnya where his Egypt team have set up camp © AFP / KARIM JAAFARGROZNY, Russian Federation, Jun 12 – Mohamed Salah, a star attraction ahead of football’s 2018 World Cup in Russia, has made headlines for a smiling photo with Ramzan Kadyrov, strongman of Chechnya where his Egypt team have set up camp.“Mo Salah was woken from his sleep so a man accused of ‘torture and extrajudicial killings’ could have a photo with him during training” in Grozny, capital of the Russian republic, British tabloid The Sun opined. Kadyrov, supported by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, rules Chechnya with an iron fist, drawing constant condemnation from human rights groups.According to press reports, he himself went to the Egyptian team hotel to pick up Salah and deliver him for training at the football stadium before 8,000 cheering fans.Officially, The Pharaohs chose Grozny as Egypt’s camp although it is not hosting any matches in the tournament to keep a low profile, away from the media, as they prepare to make their World Cup finals return after an absence of 28 long years.Sporting a turquoise-and-white tracksuit, gushed about Salah, saying the Egypt and Liverpool goal machine was “the best footballer in the world, and an overall perfect person”.Chechnya’s president himself is an avid fan of the no-holds-barred sport of Mixed Martial Arts.Under his rule of Muslim-dominated Chechnya, mosques have sprouted up everywhere from the ruins of towns and villages destroyed in two wars against the central government in Moscow.Tajeddine Soultane, manager of the team’s spanking new hotel, The Local, said they opted for Chechnya “because this is a conservative country… where you don’t find discotheques” and the food is halal in keeping with Muslim religious laws. For the team itself, the Salah-Kadyrov handshake was far less important than whether their star will recover from a shoulder injury to feature in Egypt’s opening match against Uruguay on Friday in Ekaterinburg.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

Sub Kasumba rescues point for Sofapaka

first_imgIn an almost full to capacity Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, it was the home side Vihiga who had the better chances in the opening half, Sofapaka custodian Justin Ndikumana making three brilliant stops that kept his side in the game.Ndikumana was making his full debut for Batoto ba Mungu having come on as a second half substitute last weekend against Tusker FC in Machakos after Richard Aimo was injured.-Ndikumana brilliant save The Burundian made a brilliant stop on the quarter hour mark, leaping superbly to his left to parry away a stinging volley struck from distance with pace and power by Kevin Muhanji.Sofapaka made a swift response and should have surely gone ahead a minute later when Dennis Odhiambo’s well delivered freekick from the left found Stephen Waruru isolated inside the box but the former Ulinzi Stars man’s connection was off target unmarked at the backpost.Sofapaka striker John Avire wheels past Vihiga United’s Collins Kisuya during a Kenyan Premier League match at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on January 13, 2019. DDTV – COUNTDOWN TO CROKER: MCGUINNESS “WE’VE GOT TO GO TO DUBLIN BELIEVING WE CAN WIN THE GAME”

first_imgCOUNTDOWN TO CROKER: Jim McGuinness has insisted that his players have got to believe they can defeat Dublin when the two sides clash at Croke Park on August 31st.Donegal have been written off by many pundits and journalists and some bookmakers in Dublin are offering odds of 10-1 for a Donegal win. Many feel Dublin will have too much pace and power for Donegal and expect them to win comfortably. It’s surprising considering Donegal won the All-Ireland in emphatic fashion in 2012.In fact, in his first two years in charge of Donegal, the only match McGuinness lost was against Dublin in 2011, in which inexperience at the time probably cost them the result.2013 was a blip for Donegal, injuries coupled with a lack of intensity and hunger of the previous two campaigns resulted in them surrendering their Ulster and All-Ireland titles. However, this year they’ve stormed back to win their third Ulster title in four years, and are looking formidable in defence and dangerous on the attack. While pundits may be writing off Donegal’s chances, one thing is for sure, that the players and management of Donegal come 3.30pm on August 31st will believe they can beat the Dubs and book their place in a second All-Ireland final in three years. As McGuinness would say, “I believe they will achieve.”Simply click on the video above to play. DDTV – COUNTDOWN TO CROKER: MCGUINNESS “WE’VE GOT TO GO TO DUBLIN BELIEVING WE CAN WIN THE GAME” was last modified: August 20th, 2014 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:All-Ireland semi-finalCountdown to CrokerDDTVdublinJim McGuinnessnewsSportvideolast_img read more

There is substantial evidence that well-organised workplaces are both safe and productive, and that is our aim”, adds Froneman.Sibanye – Stillwater has committed to;Launch a safety summit with stakeholders to work towards a common goal of reducing work-related fatal accidents and injuriesContinue to provide necessary support, including counselling, financial backing, housing, education support and other benefits to the grieving families of the deceased employeesSupport and promote adherence to Section 23 of the Mine Health and Safety ActEstablished safety programmes which inform employees, supervisors and managers about the right to withdraw from an unsafe workplace and how to apply Section 23 responsiblyInstituted a programme to promote the behaviour change required so that the right to withdraw becomes an integral part of our workplace cultureAfford employees a formal grievance procedure and an anonymous tip-offs system that any employee can use if they are given an unlawful instruction or are victimised. The launch of Digiine a collaborative partnership between Sibanye – Stillwater and the University of the Witwatersrand is expected to complement and improve safety and operating effectiveness.last_img read more
